Fly Fishing

Lonestar 25 On the Fly 2024

25 On the Fly tournament returns to the Lone Star state for the second year. After participating in it last year, it was a no-brainer to sign another team up and hit the road to explore the various fishing opportunities in Texas.

Suicide Shad

A Cowtown original. This shad pattern is a great pattern for bass, striper and smallies. The Suicide Shad is an articulated streamer that offers plenty of moment in the water to entice those picky fish to eat. These will be available at the Orvis Fort Worth store  and on the website starting in January of 2025!

Hopper, No Dropper!

Late summer and well into the fall months, western states are known for their hopper fishing. Typically with the warmer weather, there are not as many significant hatches happening and grasshoppers come out in full force making them a floating steak dinner. Walk through any meandering field on your way to your favorite stream and you can see just how plentiful these bugs are.

Cicadas and Tornados

We saw one of the most epic Brood X Cicada hatches where both the XIII(17 year) and XIX(13 year) cycles emerged at the same time. What better place to go chase this hatch than the White River in Arkansas? While we were there, that area was hit hard with storms and every morning these bugs littered the banks and floated down the river turning them into steak dinners for hungry trout.

Georgia Peaches

A few years ago, I had no idea that the state of Georgia held wild trout. It wasn’t until I made a few connections on Instagram that I started to believe this state could be one of the lesser known trout fishing destinations in the south.

Project Cicada 2024

For all you dry fly junkies that love throwing big foam flies to rising trout, there is a special phenomenon going on this summer that is going to truly blow you away. In 2024, the Brood XIII and the Brood XIX Cicadas will be emerging at the same time.

Dally’s Tiny Dancer

The Tiny Dancer is a great diver pattern for bass and trout alike. It offers great movement, pushes a ton of water and is easy to cast. Tied in multiple color options, this is a great imitation of a baitfish that get the fish acting some sort of way!

Building the Perfect Box

The foundation of having an organized box all starts with selecting the right box for your application. There are many different box options on the market and depending on if you are wade fishing or fishing from a boat, you can determine the proper size.

Rainbow Warrior Jig

The rainbow warrior is a great tailwater pattern that doesn’t necessarily imitate anything in particular but fish tend to mistake it for many forms of food. This pattern can be tied on a standard nymph hook but I love the jig version to use as my trailer fly on a nymph rig

Winter Time Blues

As winter creeps in, the days get shorter and the weather gets colder. We find ourselves longing for those long summer days on the water and have an itch to get out and fish again. What do you do in your off season to scratch this itch? We’ve got a few ideas on how you can pass those winter months!
