CORRAL DUST

Mini Jig Head Leach

The Mini Leech Jig is my go-to anchor fly for nymphs, dry droppers, or as a solo drifting streamer imitation. Tied on an Umpqua jig hook with a tungsten bead, the micro pine squirrel matched with the ostrich jerk collar provides enough buoyancy that it suspends in the water column without the need of an extended pin and bead. Produced in sizes 10, 12, 14 ,16 and colors olive, rust or black, this is one jig fly you don’t want to miss out on for all moving and still waters!

Missoula Golden Stone

The Missoula Golden was invented by the original owner of The Missoulian Angler Fly Shop, Paul Kohler. The Bullet head floats low and provides a realistic silhouette on the water’s surface that is irresistible to fish. This fly is best tied in sizes 8-12 but can be tied bigger when using it with a dropper fly and can be fished during both the golden stone and salmon fly hatch. Follow along with us as we tie one up!

Dating a Fly Fisherman 101

“Cast, strip, wiggle wiggle wiggle, make it move, ok now you can recast but don’t slap the water, strip, strip, strip a bit faster, ok recast but make it lightly land on the water…” This meant nothing, I could hardly understand what I was meant to be doing. Where was the worm? Let me save you some time and help you get caught up on the lessons my kind, generous, yet completely oblivious boyfriend should have taught me.

Chasing the Skwala

Before the snow starts to melt and the cold winter air fades, there is a noteworthy hatch starting to take place in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. This pre-run off hatch is one of the first western hatches to kick the spring fishing season off. While weather can be noncooperative some days, if you time it right, the skwala hatch is a must for any dry fly or die angler!
