CORRAL DUST

LoneStar 25 On the Fly

The mission was simple: catch 25 species on the fly in two days of fishing. This tournament was kicking off its first year in the Lone Star State so we decided to put our flies to the test and field a team. The species list consisted of primarily freshwater species with a few saltwater fish mixed in so we decided to stay local and fish the North Texas water in search of 19 of the 25.

Bennett’s Lunch Money

The Lunch Money was created out of need for a bite-sized baitfish streamer for the Texas Hill Country. Most of our baitfish are in the 2-3″ range and due to our normally ultra-clear water, our bass can be fairly finicky, which meant it needed to both look realistic and have the right amount of movement to work correctly

The Ark

Nestled in the heart of the Rockies, Salida, Colorado holds an amazing trout fishery. The Arkansas river stretches all the way from Leadville to the Kansas border and offers an amazing amount of public access. Some of the best dry fly fishing can be done just outside of Buena Vista and Salida where browns and bows are abundant!

Amy’s Ant

With hopper season in full swing, we look to highlight one of our favorite patterns here at Cowtown Fly Co when it comes to slinging big bugs in the fall for hungry trout! These can be tied in many different colors and are one of our favorites this time of year!

Into The Canyon

As you pull into the access parking a meandering meadow stream leads down to towering canyon walls hiding an absolute gem of a fishery. This small stretch of stream is part of the North Platte River system and is well worth the pack in. Deep plunge pools hold monster trout actively feeding on small midges.

Elk Hair Caddis

Elk Hair Caddis (EHC) patterns have been a staple in fly boxes around the country ever since Al Troth took this pattern to Loyalsock Creek in eastern Pennsylvania. It floats high, it’s durable, and it catches fish everywhere.

Shad Kill Browns

If “a bad day fishing beats a good day at the office” were a trip, this was shaping up to be the one. After booking the room weeks in advance, we were at the mercy of the mighty White River’s flow of upwards of 15,000 CFPS being released daily due to recent rainfall.

The Silver King

Deep in the Florida Everglades, huge tarpon roll in the shade of the mangroves. A guide slowly poles into position while the angler on the bow patiently awaits his shot. 10 o’clock, 30 yards, cast now! Quick double haul, and let it fly. Strip, strip,… Read More »The Silver King
