25 On the Fly tournament returns to the Lone Star state for the second year. After participating in it last year, it was a no-brainer to sign another team up and hit the road to explore the various fishing opportunities in Texas.

Late summer and well into the fall months, western states are known for their hopper fishing. Typically with the warmer weather, there are not as many significant hatches happening and grasshoppers come out in full force making them a floating steak dinner. Walk through any meandering field on your way to your favorite stream and you can see just how plentiful these bugs are.
This pattern is 80% foam and 20% legs and the end result is a killer hopper pattern with a realistic bottom profile that will float all day long. As hopper season is upon us, this is a must have pattern in the fly box!
We saw one of the most epic Brood X Cicada hatches where both the XIII(17 year) and XIX(13 year) cycles emerged at the same time. What better place to go chase this hatch than the White River in Arkansas? While we were there, that area was hit hard with storms and every morning these bugs littered the banks and floated down the river turning them into steak dinners for hungry trout.
The Chubby Chernobyl is a bulky descendent of the Chernobyl Ant. There are times, especially on Western rivers during the summer and early fall, when trout will come out of the darkest of holes to inhale one of these large foam bugs. They can be tied to mimic most stoneflies and work well during hopper season. They are a must have in you box from June through August.
